Thung Saliam Limestone Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Forms a group of hills 7 km west of Thung Saliam (north Sukhothai Province). Upper formation in Sukhothai Gr.
Synonym: หมวดหินปูนทุง่เสลีย่ม
Lithology and Thickness
Consists of grey, recrystallized limestone with rare fossil fragments at the bottom; tuffaceous shale and sandstone in the middle; and pinkish to white marble at the top, with an estimated thickness of 900 m at Thung Saliam.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Depending upon definition, the next older regional unit is the Kao Khieo Tuff Fm.
Upper contact
Depending upon definition, the next younger regional unit is the Dan Han Hoi Gr (Khao Khi Ma Fm). To the north, the Thung Saliam Limestone is probably overlain by siliciclastics of the Uttaradit Gr (probably belonging to the ‘Rong Kwang Fm') (Bunopas 1981).

Northern Region: Sukhothai; Central Plain: Nakhon Sawan province. Correlated with the Khao Sawang Fm marble and the Khao Manao Fm marble

Fossils
"Poorly preserved, indeterminate pelecypods and rugose corals were found in the limestone (Bunopas 1981), and a small granitic body of probable Triassic age intrudes the limestone. To the north, the Thung Saliam Limestone is probably overlain by siliciclastics of the Uttaradit Gr (probably belonging to the ‘Rong Kwang Fm) (Bunopas 1981). These fragmentary lines of evidence suggest that the Silurian–Devonian age assignment for this limestone is unreliable and we consider it to be a recrystallized limestone unit of the Permian
